As somebody who is writing this post while wearing yoga pants with moth holes in the butt, I am not the type of person you would describe as fashion conscious. My style motto: clean underpants and big earrings.
Just the same, sometimes I like to graze through the look books to see what’s coming down the runway. Trend spotting or whatever. Last February I was delighted to see Ralph Lauren took his Fall 2012 inspiration from my favorite TV show Downton Abbey: gobs of tweed and spunky argyle, cloche hats and pin stripes, McKenzie tartan with leopard print silk. Swoon! It was like Lady Sybil in Old Money Wonderland.
Apparently they even played the Downtown Abbey theme at the show. |
If I had seen the collection three or four years ago, I would have described it as typical Ralph Lauren with a twist of 1915 Flair…now I see it as Downton Abbey with a twist of Ralph Lauren. Isn’t it funny how life imitates art and then art goes and imitates right back again?
Season Three of Downton Abbey premiers in the UK this week. If anyone reading this in Great Britain feels like recording it and sending it Little Ol’ Me to me in Chicago, feel free. Feel very free. Otherwise I will wait with the rest of the US until it premiers in January, which is OK too. I have a few things to help tie me over.
The Season Three trailer will also help with the wait. (OMG Ya’ll it’s Shirley MacLaine!)
