Last spring I conducted a reader survey, and to my utter amazement, nearly 500 people filled out the dang thing. Of course I read the results one-by-one as they came in (thanks again to everyone who took the time to fill one out!)…however, it took me a while to get the results sifted and sorted out in an excel doc. Something tells me a college kid with a marketing major could have sorted it out in ten minutes, but for me, it took no less than six months. Things like this are what make me resentful toward the younger generation. Things like this make me think I will one day be that grouchy old-lady on the front porch, grating cheese on my chin hair, yelling, “HEY YOU, YOU GET YOUR DAMN HOVERBOARD OFF MY LAWN.”
Source. Sadly, the photographer is not credited (anyone?) but I love the caption, “You can choose to live your life with the joy of the front row or solemnness of the third row. The choice is yours.” AP readers are first row riders for sure 🙂 |
Anyway, about the survey results…one of the questions on the survey was this: What other blogs do you follow? Any favorites?
The list of what came out was fascinating. Over 1,500 blog names came up, about 100 of which are now added to my Feedly reader (btw, I really like Feedly, don’t you? Much better than Google Reader, I think). But what was really interesting was that many of the same names kept on popping up, over and over again. I took away so much from the list, I thought it would be a great idea to share some of them with you. Some of them are well known, some not-so-much, and some are my absolute, long-time favorites. Some are crafty, some are stylish, some are deeply personal. You can tell a lot about a person by what they read – and I can tell you guys have great taste!
Also, I’ll admit, I love it when a reader and I share the same taste in blogs. It makes me feel like we share a sisterhood of traveling pants style connection, minus the pants and sisterhood.
Without further adieu…

*= this blog also happens to be one of my personal favorites. Look there first!
Now comes the fun part – help add to this list! What are your favorite blogs?

You blog was mentioned numerous times too! And, for the record, if this was a list of *my* favorite 25 blogs, YOU would be at the top of the list.
🙂

Love all of these too!! Many of these I read daily, as well as Manhattan Nest. Makes me laugh out loud. Enjoying the Small Things is also a really good one.

Manhattan nest — I will check it out!

I too am laughing at the chin hair comment. When I envisioned it, you were donning a leopard print duster, sitting on a fancy fabric covered chair with a DIY wreath hanging on the front door behind you. You tell good stories Aunt P, that’s why I keep coming back. ^^

Thank, Whit :)= (<— That’s a smiling emoticon with wicked chin hair)

The Improvised Life would be in my top two or three blogs. Please check it out! I’m going to investigate your list. My impression is it’s of a slightly different vein than many of the above, some of which I already follow. Thanks for the list; I love finding great new blogs!

I have seen the improvised life a few times — an excellent curator, that is for sure.

I read Yarn Harlot, The Panopticon, Yarn-A-GoGo, Detoxinista (for some good eats — a girl’s gotta eat, and Simple Dollar for my daily dose of finance. I love new blogs so thanks for providing your list!

I love the name yarn harlot. I’m a fan already!
Sandy
The Harlot is a legend in the knitting community. She has books too. Essays. Even if you aren’t a knitter you will love The Harlot.
Janel from NellieBellie

There really are some good ones. US bloggers think we know everyone out there and then BAM, something new pops up.

Thanks for the additional blogspiration I’ve visited some, but can see there are several more I need to explore.
You’ve may have already checked out these blogs, but I like them so much I figured I needed to share them with you. Rufus’ Food and Spirits Guide (rufusguide.wordpress.com) is a daily (almost always) inspiration of food and drink. They always make me hungry. For snort worthy (usually irreverent) laughs, you might want to check out Japecake (jape cake.wordpress.com). He only posts a couple of times a month, but it’s always worth the wait.
Thank you again, Dear Aunt Peaches. I felt like I won the lottery when I found your blog, so everything else is just pocket change….

I am so glad to see my all-time favourite bloggeress Jen Yates from Epbot there, but her original blog – Cake Wrecks is what first drew me to her great sense of humour. It is so hilarious I often end up laughing out loud. I also like Little Blue Boo which is a nicely written blog detailing a woman’s life, struggle with cancer and her life-affirming hobbies. Savvy Housekeeping is a wonderful place to find helpful tips on gardening, pest control, bargaining, and running an efficient home. Craftaholics Anonymous, 30 Minute Crafts, Dollar Store Crafts and All Cheap Crafts all often have cute ideas for making things quickly and inexpensively, I usually adapt the projects to make them a little fancier, but they are great for inspiration. Twigg Studios has a lot of great recipes, and the images are fantastic, but the grammar ruins a lot of the enjoyment for me, If you are having a dinner party though her stuff is fancy enough for a French restaurant. Fifteen Spatulas is another great recipe blog, all the recipes are from scratch – that is her goal to bring scratch cooking back and show people how easy it can be. For another bit of fun inspiration, I like Ikea Hackers – they epitomize the concept of thinking outside the box – or in this case the instructions. Ikea Hackers shows you how to take all sorts of Ikea products and turn them into something else – wastepaper basket lampshade? Colander flowerpot? Captain’s bed from a shelving unit? Go for it! Among those favourites of course is this blog with your funny commentary, optimistic outlook and zest for life. I really wish that I could have people like all you bloggers I admire as close personal girlfriends. I think an afternoon with you would help me rediscover my faith in humanity.
