Happy Monday Y’all. Did you survive Snowzilla? Thought so.
Hay. New game for you: Google your first name immediately followed by “glamour shot” and see what comes up then share the first image on social media. Dare you! You’re welcome.
Note. If the first one is bad but not not real-bad just somebodys-mom-wore-too-much-makeup-in-the-90s-bad, you can pick from the first five. This one was my favorite. Serious sequin action. I call her, The Gambler.
You got to know when to hold ’em, know when to fold ’em, know when to walk away…know when to run.
…Apparently she ran right down to the mall and got herself some sass. Get it girl!

Are you still in need of a homemade valentine idea?
Thought so. Subversive Cross Stitch to the rescue!
Also, below is a video I made last year with an idea for batch valentines that you can make at home. They look reullll cute on their own with a little tag tie, or added to a small gift or parcel of baked goods. Cookies in particular. Not that I would know, cookies haven’t successfully left my house in years as they get eaten as they were intended – on the confetti littered floor while drinking margaritas and singing love songs to the cat.
Happy Valenines!!!

Sooooo….I did the Glamor Shot thing and got 2 photos of a woman from Coney Island utilizing a New York Public Library bookmobile and getting a free lunch. The story, from the New York Daily News in 2013, talked about recovery efforts from Superstorm Sandy. What made the story even more cue “The Twilight Zone” music, is that the woman had the exact same spelling as my name and is/was my exact age. Nothing glamorous about us other than, perhaps, surviving on the planet as long as we have.

That. Chair. That’s the kind of early Valentine’s gift I want. No matter what kind of face lift you give it, that chair needs a Bite Me Sheila pillow, stat.
Oh, Glamour Shots…thank heavens those things went the way of the dodo bird, along with the 90’s. Let’s not ever go back there again, shall we?
Jamie
Oh dear! “Jamie Glamour Shots” brings up some VERY alarming images!!!! I am scarred and really, really want to change my name!!!

I had these four aunts who were actually my dad’s first cousins, but they were of his generation, so they became my aunts. And they lived in Chicago during the 40’s and all of their Fiances were off fighting the dreaded Hun. Kind of tough, given that our entire family is from Germany, and the dreaded Hun WAS our family.
Anyway, all four of these sisters went to a glamour shot photographer in Winnetka (North Shore so it MUST be good!!) and had glamour shots taken. In Black and White. Forties hairdos. Black sweaters with strands of pearls. Soft focus lenses. They all looked GORGEOUS!
They sent their pictures to their men in Uniform, in Italy, in France, in the South Pacific and all of their buddies said, “THAT is YOUR girl?!?!?” Because they were all too gorgeous for their men. Were then, and always were.
So. I for one think there are Glamour shots and there are Glamour shots. We lost our senses of style after WWII. But if I could have a picture like those of my “aunts”, I would be totally on board!

Oooo, I love that story. And Winnetka is just next door so I can imagine the crowd. I like the idea of the glamor shots of today being very chic decades from now – let’s keep our fingers crossed!!

Thanks for sharing this awesome wartime story. I’ve a similar one about my parents, but with a twist. My movie-star gorgeous Mom sent my Dad a picture that he loved and so he had it cropped and made into a portrait… a very glamorous portrait, me thinks. 🙂 Here’s the story, if you’d like to read:

Hi Aunt Peaches — I tried to comment on the Valentine’s Swap post, but it appears that the comments on that are closed. As did Lynne, who was able to leave a comment, I also got my own name as a person to send to and when I replied, I also reached Valentine. No great worry but I would love to get another name or two to send to if needed. Thanks for coordinating the swap!
