When it comes to gift giving, sometimes the wrapper is as good as the gift (if not better). Today on Apartment Therapy, I have a quick and easy DIY on making gift boxes from old record sleeves.
I had been saving old boot and shoe boxes for Christmas present wrapping. They are strong, and cheap cause they come free with every new shoe purchase (had four of them saved over a couple months from kids shoe purchases). So, I go out to grab a box from the front porch the other day, cause I have gifts to wrap, and all the boxes are gone. I asked my husband what happened to my *perfect* gift boxes and you know what he says? *I ripped them all up and put them in the recycle*……. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Seriously? Now I have to go BUY boxes to wrap stuff!!
The comments at Apartment Therapy are kinda negative, so be warned.
Meanwhile, I have a stash of albums that called out from a very, very clean dumpster. “Save us, oh, please save us,” they cried. The vinyl? not so great. The covers? soon to be boxes. I will not be posting this at Apartment Therapy. Thank you, Aunt Peaches.
No need to warn — I saw them start rolling in yesterday. It’s unusual to see a post on AT that doesn’t have some snide remark or “I know better” comments, so I was prepared, especially since some people think records are sacred. But anyway. The surest path to failure is to try and please everyone! The people who have seen the boxes in person were pretty thrilled, actually, so that’s enough for me 🙂
Love this idea…especially if the album cover is WAY better than the record contained within. I am from the vinyl generation, so while it does hurt to see album covers destroyed, in this case, the cheesier the cover, the better it would be for altering into something great. Judicious selection is key for this project—using original albums by the Beatles or Zeppelin would be akin to blasphemy. Take note, all you whippersnappers out there.
New Dress A Day
PS, you can borrow the polkadotted dress that I posted today for your hand delivered polka wrapped gifts if needed…
