Well folks. What a week!
The past seven days has brought the depths of hatred, profound grief, and new heights of open-mindedness. On Thursday I watched Clemnta Pickney’s funeral in the waiting room of a car wash and saw grown men cry in mourning for someone they never met. On Friday, I watched other men cry in joy, and in sadness to know they could not tell their teenage self that this day would come. For a while there, my Facebook feed looked like a war broke out between the confederacy and the NAACP, then it was getting down to the ugliest parts a massive platoon of skittles took over and everyone tasted the rainbow. It was like a battle scene from Lord of the Rings with less beards and more scripture. Man! What a condensed slice of history we are living in. What an incredible time to be alive. To share. To love. To disagree. Two years ago I wrote a birthday card to America asking her work on some stuff, now, given two years perspective, I wonder what I might tell her today. I can’t wait to celebrate July4 this Saturday.
Legislated morality, civil rights, and the Christian response to marriage equality. (<<If there was one nugget of text I wish every American would read this week, and not just the ones I agree with, this is it).

Speaking of which, move over HGTV: catios are coming.
Okay dog people, here is something for you; a festival in Nepal that thanks dogs for being our friends and they all get flower necklaces.

One of my favorite companies chose to be on the right side of history, even if that means some of their customer base throttles them with scripture and promises of damnation. Here are a bunch of other major corporations doing the same. Including some seriously rad ice cream.

In the four years I lived in Switzerland there was always a rumor about one of the local chalets being a military bunker. Looks like it might have been more than a rumor.
This is what happens when you illegally park in a handicap spot in Brazil. Creative lawmaking at its best.
Word of the week: Occiolism
n. The awareness of the smallness of your perspective, by which you couldn’t possibly draw any meaningful conclusions at all, about the world or the past or the complexities of culture, because although your life is an epic and unrepeatable anecdote, it still only has a sample size of one, and may end up being the control for a much wilder experiment happening in the next room. “The older I get, the more occhiolistic my worldview becomes.”
Random Holiday of the week: National Waffle Iron Day, June 29
This holiday celebrates this great kitchen gadget that makes tasty waffles. Let us not forget that waffles are not just for breakfast as they are great for lunch or dinner, too. Interestingly, the waffle dates back to the 1300s in Greece, so it’s appropriate the celebrate the good times because Greece is about to blow out their adult diaper.
Quick favor to ask: My wonderful friend Alexa is within spitting distance of winning some serious photography equipment (mucho expensive). Could you take a sec and click this link? If you want to register or poke around at their projects that would be great, but no pressure. Just click the link and help a sister out. Thanks guys!
Is it wrong that I knew all of those Golden Girl facts? Do I need an intervention? I wish there was a lost GG episode to be unearthed.
Even though I don’t really know you, if you think someone needs a click – she shall have a click.
I just heard — ALexa cam in second place (with a swell runner up prize). Thanks for the clicks!
Random holiday of the week! This should be a reoccurring part of the Monday roundup! I love celebrating the everyday ordinary.
Waffles for all!
I think so too! I have done it before but I need to make more of an effort to find the groovy ones. 🙂
