I don’t know anyone who hates Thanksgiving. I know plenty of people who hate Valentines, Halloween, and even a few who are fed up with Christmas…but I have never found anyone who hates Thanksgiving. Why? Who can find fault with eating pie and food and being appreciative and eating more pie? Nobody. That’s who.
I have been trying to come up with a Thanksgiving craft for a while, but it’s surprisingly hard since the holiday is pretty swell as is. Just the same, this project for Pentel hits the bases; it’s easy, it’s appreciative, and it can double as a centerpiece which is another way of making food look good. Not that my pie has ever looked bad. But, it might look even better under a Thankful Tree. Welp, only one way to find out…
Happy Thanksgiving!
What a wonderful idea – perfect for all ages! -Marci @ Stone Cottage Adventures
What a great idea!
Okay okay, I’ll be “that guy (woman)” – I think a lot of First Nations or American Indian people might have an issue or two with Thanksgiving.
But taking aside the reason for the holiday, I agree- who can’t get behind an event that has at least 2 types of pie involved? Love the tree- I may do it next year when our Canadian Thanksgiving rolls around again in October 🙂
Yeah, it’s funny, isn’t it? A few years ago I asked an Indian friend if Thanksgiving was unPC (her preferred term is Indian btw – I’m never sure about these things)…her take on it (I’m paraphrasing here): Thanksgiving started as a day to commemorate the *kindness* those Native Americans showed to the pilgrims (do we still call them pilgrims?) and the harvest that came out of that gesture. Nobody would have survived that first winter had it not been for them…the Indians are the hero of the story, so how could she find fault with that? Wasn’t their fault the white folks later turned out to be assholes, and it doesn’t serve anyone to diminish their kindness by avoiding/dishonoring the holiday.
But your point is well taken. And my friend doesn’t speak for everyone. And we have a habit of sugar coating history. Ahem, Columbus day, for example…
🙂
Thank you so much for this wonderful idea! I have put my 6 year old granddaughter and 8 year old grandson in charge of this for Thanksgiving day. We have cut out all the leaves, found the adorable little clothespins at Wmart, and have it all set up as the centerpiece of the table. I just love this idea…thank you again!
A thankful tree with gratitudes is a lovely idea, and it does look very good!
Thank you.
