Well folks, we are less than two weeks from Christmas and I am operating like it’s October. Plenty of time to procrastinate, right? This is usually my busiest time of year, but between my trip to DC and a whopper of a flu I haven’t done much of anything I said I was going to do except watch the Dolly Parton television movie (OH MY GOD SO GREAT). The good news is it’s a fresh week and my winter scented candle supply is at an all-time low, so no matter what, I’m probably going to leave the house soon. Probably.
Last minute gift idea: Adult coloring books. Here are my favorites!
I made a batch of these homemade hand salves last year and the recipients keep asking me for the recipe – it’s a keeper!
A cheese tree. Yes!!
How to elevate your hot chocolate game.
This massive Hungarian “charity tree” will be donated after the holidays are over.
This ballet dancer is my new favorite.
Why are little kids in Japan so independent?
Watch out: Mrs. Obama just out-mommed all y’all. Catch it.
Did you heard about Serial? It’s baaaaaack! Also, Season 2 of Transparent. It’s like the entertainment people want me to stay on the couch all day.
Speaking oust remember, behind every prolific Instagrammer, there is an Instagram husband…
Super interesting article on the Tokyo errand kids! I’m glad it mentioned the subway gropers, tho’. I adored riding the subways there but I wasn’t young or cute enough to be a target of the creeps – ugh! Feel better, sweet sparkle lady!
A note on your hand salve. I make balms and salves as well. The beeswax problem…if you get your wax in big blocks (like I do), you can prep it into smaller pieces very easily–for weighing and measuring.. It takes some time, but once it’s done you dont have to worry about it. What I do is that I melt the whole block in an old pot. I have a big bowl filled with very cold water. As the wax melts, you pour it off into the water…. it will look like “frozen” lava….. these pieces are very easy to break into tiny pieces with your hand. It’s really an excellent way of turning block to “beads” this way. Hope you understood my tutorial. lol
You will love Michaela Deprince even more if you watch the documentary “First Position”. It follows young ballet dancers in the Grand Prix. Heartwarming and Inspiring stuff!!
Love the poor Instagram husbands video! Very cute! Can’t WAIT to try the hand salve. This year I made my first foray into pour and melt soap which struck me as another good homemade, but practical gift. I then painted cute little jelly jars to gift the soap in. You can see how they turned out on my blog- I was enchanted with them (isn’t that always the way???)!
