If you understand the reference above, you will understand why I felt compelled to buy it ten seconds after I saw it. Feel free to do the same.
If you do not understand the reference above, you will. It’s from The Hunger Games. And you have barely two weeks to read the trilogy before the movie comes out on March 23.
That’s the same weekend as the return of Mad Men.
My pop culture happy spot is about to explode.
This will almost satiate my Downton Abbey sweet tooth. Almost.
PS: Are you an artsy Hunger Games fan? Elizabeth Banks, who plays Effie Trinket in the movie, is curating a “Send Me Your Hunger Games Art Giveaway” on her blog. That’s right: she has a blog. AND IT’S GOOD. That’s right: she is a gorgeous, successful smarty pants with a kickass blog and someone just paid her a boat load on money to dress up like Effie Trinket. If she wasn’t so cool, I’m certain I’d feel compelled to hate her. As is, I’ll settle for seething jealousy. Seriously, people, just look at these eyelashes:

Girl, you are missing out!
You can have the eyelashes too (on sale for 9 bucks!) from Sephora: http://www.sephora.com/browse/product.jhtml?id=P294802&categoryId=C11091&shouldPaginate=true
They also have a “Peach Blossom” set…..
OMG count me in the HG-obsessed club 🙂 If anyone hasn’t read them yet, there’s PLENTY of time before the movie comes out. I read all 3 books in a week. SO EXCITED for the movie but so bummed I’m gonna miss seeing it on the day it comes out with all my book club girls. I’ll be on a work trip that week… although, I’ll be going to London and Paris, so I can’t complain too much 🙂
Oh my, those eyelashes are awesome! I admit: I have not gotten around to reading HG yet…Booooo!
Would you please explain to me what the Hunger Games is? I must have had my head in the sand (I was in Florida) all last year. I am excited because Jeff Lewis is coming back on TV with Jenny, and then I wonder if Ruby and Too Fat for Fifteen will be back. Plus Dancing with the Stars.
Have you been to the Capitol Couture site yet? You must: http://capitolcouture.pn/
Pffff London and Paris?! You can wait for HG til you get back. I am looking forward to an early showing with a bunch of fellow HG fans. Don’t know if I am up for the midnight show (am I that old?) but theaters will be packed for sure!
Oh. My. God.
The Hunger Games is book trilogy that is the best thing in lit in a long time. The first 3 chapters are boring and then it’s like a roller coaster. If you don’t have time to read, you can download the audiobooks on Itunes and listen in the car or around the house –just be prepared to get addicted.
I’m excited about Jenny and Jeff Lewis too! When is Jenny going to get her own show? I want to buy her children’s rap album.
But is it fantasy, or vampires? I don’t like stuff that can’t really happen. Harry Potter doesn’t count. I have time to read, I just have to get off Pinterest, it’s taking up my reading time. Thanks.
I’ve seen previews for the movie but didn’t know it was a book. The graphic looks like Donald Sutherland to me??????
If there is one HG obsessed fan…it is MOI! I’ve read all the books…the first one twice, and I got the hard cover editions from America for Christmas! AMAZING! I cannot wait for the movie… a group of my school friends are going to go see it together! Love the eyelashes, and love Effie!
Love your blog Peaches, I check for new posts every day!
It’s not fantasy or vampires or science fiction, although there is some suspension or reality (but it is in a very believable way). It takes place hundreds of years in the future but most people are living in conditions the same as hundreds of years ago…but the crux of the story has more to do with survival and relationships than anything out of “Back to the Future” like. The more I try to explain it the stranger it will sound…you just have to experience it for yourself. Like I said, the first three chapters are a snooze, but then the bomb drops and it’s hard to put down –I hardly ever say that about books. It’s a fun read!
We lived and breathed HG while it was in the making. They made part of it around here, in Western NC, using folks from “around here” as extras, so enjoy the scenery when you see the movie. Yes, it IS that beautiful around here – Gods country, we say. We will watch the movie, too.
Yes indeed, it IS beautiful country. I didn’t know that was where they filmed though –you lucky ducks!
Oh yeah, it’s great to rip off other people’s designs and sell it to go along with another fad book turned movie. You can’t just grab a Shepard Fairy print, copy the design with a different face, and flippin sell it! And as an artist/maker you shouldn’t endorse such things.
I hear what you are saying but that’s not the way I see it at all. This is a humorous parody on an iconic image. If I thought for one second that this piece was taking anything away from Fairey’s series, via sales or prestige, I wouldn’t go near it; but as is, a work like this only bolsters the original. And, seeing as Fairey built an entire career based on appropriating second-hand pop-culture images, this is all just history repeating.
