Wowzers, this one is a sparkler.
Can you tell I’m channeling my inner 6-year-old?
I’m in a mood for everything sparkly and pretty and written in bubble letters.
Glittering unicorns could fly out of my butt any minute.
Don’t stand too close.
Materials
- Bulb Guard (sometimes called a bulb cage or a site light. You might find aluminum ones at smaller/local hardware stores, or just get a plastic one and paint it yourself)
- Bulb/Chord Kit
- Sparkly Stick Thingies (these turquoise beauties came my way for $1.00 after Xmas, but you can find similar items in the floral or bridal section of most crafty shops all year round. I would link you to something online but, alas, searching sparkly stick thingies isn’t giving me the most desirable results)
Instructions
Yank the sparkly bits off the central stick and then twist them onto the bulb cage.
Easy much?
Cute, huh? I wish I had bought more of those sparkler sticks. I know some of y’all are beading wizards -you could make your own and really go to town on this one. Think of all the things you could twist into the wire…beads, buttons, cellophane scraps, bottle caps….whoooooooee just think of all the twinklers!
Maggi
You had me at sparkly. lol Great project, you definitely could go wild with the different whatnots on wire!

Great idea to use these “sparkle sticks” to transform the humble bulb guard! It looks like it’s covered with a petite-leaved glittery vine. So pretty, Peaches!
That guard has so much potential and could be decorated in about a million different ways too, gosh. Thanks, once again, for the inspiration!
Jamie
cute! there are pretty bead and wire garlands in the bridal section of Micheals that would work well for this too.

Wow, so COOL! I love the girly/industrial mashup of it!!!!! That shot of the bulb lit up is just beautiful. As a beady person, I would love to try my hand it those sparkler thingies.
Now, peaches. Aren’t you telling a fib? We all know that glittery unicorns only fly out of the butts of virgins. I’m juuuuust sayin’.
Kate

If I didn’t know better, I’d say you nicked this post from a VERY expensive, VERY exclusive design website without price tags on it.
Glitterin’ awesome!

OOOOOOH PRETTY! I’ve been trying to think of a chandelier type thing I could make for my porch. This would be gorgeous out there! Thanks for the genius idea, I’ll be spreading the word.
PartyMom
Love it! This chandelier is so unique too…I love the way it looks all lit up!
Mary Ellen
Very cute idea! I don’t think i have seen bulb guards before.

Aw dang it! I saw some sparkly arrangement thing-a-ma-bobbers in the clearance Christmas stuff 2 months ago. The called out to me, “We’re so preeeeeeeety. You think of something to make with us.”
Did I listen? No.
Crap.
This is what I get for being “sensible” and not spending my last dimes on whatever catches my eye.

That is so cool! I just saw it on Shelterness and had to come here to see the original. I really, really, really want to make one! Now, off to find the sparkly thing-a-ma-jiggers.

Thanks Heidi! This is the season for sparkler things! Target has some nice sequined ones right now, as does Pier One and the sometimes the bridal section at craft stores (those are big chains –but I’m sure you will find something nifty:)
