I’m pretty picky when it comes to online shopping (read: I’m cheap and I hate paying shipping).
For me to purchase something online it needs to be a BARGAIN and it needs to be rad. Not like regular rad, like, Uncle Jesse Rad.
After looking over my UJR notes from the last month, specifically at items priced under $20, it would appear I have two interests: Things That are Green and Things That are Mexican. I’m calling it Salsa Verde.
ONE Emerald City Necklace $19.99. Okay, shipping will notch up the price, but don’t you want to wear this to the grocery store? | TWO Sriracha Sauce Stud Earrings $16.00. Or as I call it, “Rooster Sauce”. | THREE Crystal Toucan Pendant $7.51. Toucans are the new hedgehog. | FOUR Papel Picado Banner $14.50. They also make custom designs for your wedding or party. Hang this in your bathroom. So cool.| FIVE Emerald Blouse $5.74. Feel of the season in the color of the year. And it’s less than six bucks. Bargain up, yo. | SIX Two Ikat Pillow Covers $18.00. I am on such an ikat kick right now! Sure, I could make them myself, but finding decent ikat fabric for under $20 a yard isn’t exactly easy. Here it’s done and ready. Yes! | SEVEN Mexican Blanket $12.99. This place has every color Mexican textile under the sun. If I could get one of these suckers big enough I would use them as curtains.

Must have that necklace.
#7 Stitch two of them together. Because they are finished on the ends, a seam of 1/2 inch would be enough to put two panels together. Or whip stitch two together. You could do that on a rainy Saturday while watching “Treasure of Sierra Madre”. Fold one of the fringed ends over to make the pocket for the curtain rod and either machine or hand sew in place. Given the weight of the blanket, I’d machine sew it. Then, when you hang the curtains, make sure the fringe is in front.
No, I have never done this, but it seems easy enough. What I did do was take two colors from a blanket someone I used to know brought me from Cancun when I watched his dog, and make them the colors in my living room. I still have the blanket but not the friendship (my cats love to lie on it) , and I have never regretted painting my living room those colors.
From personal experience (I did some of those graduation sashes for a senior class) Mexican Zarapes are now made from acrylics that tear if you use a serger and seriously unravel if you’re not careful. The sashes came out great though. One more warning, the 1st time I did them I thought I could hem the sides with seam tape…wrong, if the iron gets hot enough to seal the tape, it burns a hole on the material.
I saw a picture of a Palm Beach house this week that had antique serapes used as curtains. So, you are about ahead of the next trend.
Aunt P you read my mind!! We just ate at a hole-in-a-wall Mexican spot on our road trip and the place was decorated in that colorful paper bunting. I had no idea where to get it. Now I do. Thank you!
Like your choices! The Emerald Necklace is pretty!
I just love you and your blog…. you make my day every time!!!!! 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂
I have it on good authority that in many professional kitchens, Sriracha is called “cock sauce”. Gross, but hilarious.
I love those Mexican blankets. I buy them, oddly enough, on the Cherokee Indian Reservation. Usually for about 6 bucks each. They’re pretty and functional and last forever.
Great finds, where did you find all these goodies? Maybe you’ve mentioned it and I’m missing it somehow. Do tell! 🙂 Thx!
