I have a strange affection for chain link fences. Cyclone fences, as some folks call them. Some of my west-coast friends think they are horribly outdated, but they are still a mainstay here in the backyards of middle America. They are old. They are charming. They are sturdy-as-all-get-out. They are are also an interesting canvas for all sorts of artistic adventures (which is a valid and nobel excuse for avoiding regular yard work, which is probably what I ought to be doing right now).
Look!

My friend Geri sent me this video of an exhibit that was at Rice University in 2013. It’s chain link meets rainbow meets every Lis Frank file folder I ever left on the bus. Sigh. Man, I miss those file folders.
Ok. I have these around my property! I always hated them, but noooow, hmmmm… Diggin’ the lettering and bottle flowers!
I have to agree with Kaylin. Now I want to decorate my cranky overly conservative uncles fence.
I know it would make my day!
Dichroic Plexiglass! I have to get my hands on some of THAT! The installation at Rice University blew me away! Thanks for sharing, AP!
In total agreement with Jennifer O’Neil. It is mind-blowingly beautiful and dreamy.
Hi AP, The links for the image below Marilyn and the Bottle Flowers aren’t working. Any chance you can update? I’d love to get more info about them. Thanks so much for this inspiration!!
Hmmm…I’m not sure what you mean. Both the Marilyn piece and the work below are courtesy of the Put-in-Cups website (which is the link listed). Poke around their gallery to see all sorts of great stuff.
Wasn’t Soo Sunny Park’s creation so very awesome!!!! Ever since I saw that, I have been racking my brain to figure out a way to get the iridescent look of her little squares onto my recycled water bottle creations 😀
I’m pretty sure if I had a chain link fence it would be covered in Aunt Peaches inspired painted water bottles 😀
Thanks for sharing! You always share the most interesting, inspiring things. Check out Minneapolis based yarn artist Hot Tea. He has a Flickr page. You might like his chain link fence tagging pieces. All his stuff is amazing!
