Looks like Mr. Darcy, the Mr. Darcy, was a real person (and he wasn’t Collin Firth).
Peaches-
LOVE your roundups. Read yesterday’s NYT magazine piece on nail tech exploitation. So sad. I put on my “but not MY nail tech, I live in suburban MD” blinders. Not good not good, and worth researching further .
Love you bunches!
Same here. The place I occasionally get manicures here in Chicago uses mostly Eastern European ladies, but this as me wondering how fairly they are treated. Hmmm..
You really gathered up an interesting assortment of ideas for today. What a great way to start the week.
Any ideas where I can get one of those Chee-tos cactuses for myself? That thing is pretty cool looking.
Iris Apfel’s outfit in the first photo is just beyond awesome. AP you NEED those pants!
I was wondering the same about the cactus! Homedepot has some pretty funky varieties, but not THAT funky 🙂
Your posts always make me happy, but because I’m a total plant nerd, this post made me extra happy! That cactus is called a Yellow Peanut Cactus (Echinopsis chamaecereus f. lutea). It’s like a regular peanut cactus (which are really common at Home Depot) but this species has a natural mutation that lacks chlorophyll. Because all plants have to have chlorophyll (the stuff that makes plants green) to survive, it has to be grafted on a normal cactus (the straight part in the photo) to survive. I tried to find some online for sale with no luck 🙁 They must be fairly rare…
Happy Monday! A chilly, windy, rainy 36 degrees in North Dakota this morning, bleh!
A Mr. Darcy that’s not Colin Firth is not something my mind can compute this morning, but interesting none the less.
The new nail technician article is so concerning. I feel sick, and I don’t even get my nails done.
I had to stop looking at the Chinese crowds. I got really dizzy. That NYTimes article about nail salons is scary. I had the nameplate switch happen to me last week. How many Asian ladies are named Wanny? I also got a Hispanic lady who gave me a manicure that didn’t last two days. I think I’m going to do it myself, or just go to the expensive places.
That’s a really interesting story about the Vietnamese nail technicians. Thanks for the fascinating round up!
I just wanted to say thank you for introducing me to Iris.
Be still my heart. Your link roundup has covered both my obsession with gingers and future as a proud cat lady. Thank you.
