Bucket List Item #45: Own a carousel horse.
Not the whole carousel, mind you, just the one horse. My place isn’t big enough for a whole carousel, and even if it was, I wouldn’t want one because then people would come over and expect free rides.
Look, I’m nice, but not that nice.
Anyway, like I said, just one horse would do the job. Preferably a metallic teal horse with a forked tongue like this gnarly dude riding the wave outside the Smithsonian in Washington DC. I’m pretty sure he is a Chinese water dragon. I could be wrong on that, though. When I google “Chinese water dragon” I get pictures of big lizards and not carousel horses, which is a shame, because, if there is one sort of carousel horse I do NOT want it would be the giant lizard variety. I don’t mean to sound discriminatory against lizards of any size, of course, but if this is making my bucket list I have a right to be choosy. No?
I think I’ll call him Larry. He will hang above my kitchen sink (he’ll want to be near the water front, naturally) and I’ll look at him every time I go to do the dishes or wash my hands or run lemon rinds down the garbage disposal to keep it from smelling like old cat food. He will just hang there and be cool all day and remind me that, “Sometimes life runs in circles, but it’s the joy is not in the destination, the joy is in the doing.”
And I’ll be all “Whoa dude, I didn’t even know you could talk with that forked tongue.”

WHOA DUDE… Forked tongues are very cool. I would go for hot pink…with high heels on the hooves!

Over the sink? I’d say it’s time for a My Little Pony DIY! Could be lots of fun . . .

We had a carousel like that near in downtown TO. They were called ‘Sea Horses’ (Get it?) and although the ride has been gone for ages, I still think about it. I’d always love a cool antique old-school carousel horse. One of those white ones with a bog top feather. Also, just like Dingalingvintage, I adore old-school ferris wheels. I wish circuses were like that now a-days, you don’t even see those big standard poodles with show clips and crazy tricks that make me feel dumb.
One question though, do you think Larry could fit above your sink? I think the living room would be a great place ( I’d want my horse; Stella to sit in my bedroom near my wall to wall window so the creepy people looking into my house could see her), but if you’d want Larry to be a Real Sea Horse, you could put him in you kitchen to have extra seating while doing dishes with or simply someone to converse with besides Lola. Maybe even if you have a big enough bathroom, he could hold towels and cute little soaps and other goodies. I’m sure Larry wouldn’t look while you changed; he looks like his morals are great.
Sorry if this post is crazy long, I just realized how much I wrote 😛

Never thought I’d say this but I think you are daft. Proper silly. I mean… who would want a carousel water dragon horse and hang it over their sink? Seriously, you have to be kidding.
What you ought to do is get a Larry and stick him in your living room, as an additional seating option. Sink??? Tsk. Upholster his saddle and arrange him with the furniture.
You’d be daft not to.

Wow Aunt Peaches, Larry is just FABULOUS!
I think instead of the kitchen, you should consider hanging him in your living room, that way you could swing on him while watching TV or entertaining guests…. .just an idea…..

I have an obsession w/ ferris wheels. I asked my husband to propose with this awesome antique erector set ferris wheel i found at an antique store, instead of a diamond. My plan was to then get married on an actual ferris wheel.
I got a diamond ring and a church wedding. But I guess its the person you marry, and not what your riding on at the time. Right? er..
Anyway, I’m dreaming of this:

Well, I was hoping you got the teal water dragon. If I was going to have one, Larry’s who I would have too.

The living room is a good idea. May have to swap him in for a couch, but you know, I can make the sacrifice. After all, it is Larry….

What are the other things on your bucket list? There is a blogger called Mighty Girl that has a Mighty List of 100 things to do. She gives seminars on how to compile your list.
You could buy an old junky one and convert it to a Chinese Water Dragon, which are real animals., but don’t have wings. Why don’t you just go buy a small balsa wood Chinese dragon and paint it turquoise and hang it in the corner of your kitchen. It is good feng shiu.
